10 Musicians That Have Changed the Face of Fashion in Pop Culture

Posted on 02 March 2010 by johngillette

First of all, this list is simply an opinion. Do not take this as law.

10. RIHANNA

rhianna

Rihanna is number ten because she is just starting to really wear what she wants to wear. She has said that she likes to be risky with her fashion. She looks great in all she does and will eventually be influencing pop culture. You can catch her at Rihanna Style where she gets in depth on her fashion making decisions.

9. BLACK EYED PEAS

The Black eyed peas have been making music for some time now, but have also been a leading factor in urban fashion. They have influenced so many in the world of hip hop when it comes to style, and are are also big inspirations in the dance community. If you see dancers, they generally look similar to Black Eyed Peas. The band recently unveiled it’s eco-friendly fashion campaign.

8. STEVEN TYLER

What else can you say besides – AEROSMITH ! Aerosmith have been here for what seems like forever, been mighty successful, and their contribution to fashion is not to be forgotten.  Steven Tyler has always made you wonder “How the hell did he pull that off”.  He once said, ” it’s not cheap looking this poor ” …. ahahaha.  He really has been such an influence to the music and fashion world, and lays claim to be the originator of the “boco-chic” look.

7. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

justin

This is simple.  Justin honestly did bring SEXXY BACK. People weren’t dressing up anymore, they weren’t wearing fitted clothing. Before Justin, everyone was rocking clothes that were more baggy with crazy colors. While they still do that to a certain extent, when Sexy Back came out, pop culture changed. He made everyone want to get into a suit and be the James Bond type.  His fashion label William Rast is so successful in the US that last year he decided to take it global!

6. GWEN STEFANI

gwen

Gwen Stefani is a genius, and has always been so creative and innovative with fashion. Remeber what she did with the Harajuku Girls.  Furthermore, she has created her own successful line.  Gwen will forever be remembered in the fashion industry.

5. KANYE WEST

kanye

Always pushing the limit. Always bringing something new. In fact, if it weren’t for Kanye and his ” window shade stunnas ” I don’t think they would have been successful. He has easily impacted the hip hop community and now that he is working closely with top designers, he will influence the world.  Always something fresh with Kanye, and whether you like him or not- he always looks good.

4. PRINCE

prince

A fashion ICON. One of the most influential musicians ever. Simply stated, Prince will never be forgotten. How many times have you seen people wear purple velvet or purple velour… Not to mention the incredible tailored suits. ICON. Always noticed.

3. MADONNA

No matter what era of Madonna you decide to view, people will never stop talking about her fashion. She easily inspires design, and influences all forms of fashion. Who doesn’t think Madonna looks amazing in WHATEVER she has created?

2. LADY GAGA

ladygaga

Lady Gaga has not been in the game long enough to really make a stamp on fashion…..so why is she # 2? Because no matter what she wears, it is ALWAYS the topic of conversation the next day. And another thing, she is ALWAYS dressed in this fashion – I have yet to find a picture of her in some jeans or sweats. Always creating new shapes that have never been seen before. New ideas. New EVERTHING! While some of it is a little too much for me personally, i must applaud the creativity.

1. MICHAEL JACKSON

mj

Let’s just get right to it. This man inspired EVERYONE else on this list. Musically, and fashion wise. He is the epitome of what is happening in the pop world.  He created pop!  He is the biggest influential fashion statement to ever be.  Musician or otherwise. The one and only.
